In 1966, the Mas family acquired the Sothys beauty institute at 163 rue de Faubourg Saint Honoré, Paris. Mr Bernard Mas, Executive President of Sothys Skincare, set out to reinforce and extend Dr Hotz’s philosophy of cure and treatment.

Mr Mas breathed new life into the brand, taking Sothys to greater heights in the international market, setting the brand on her way to the iconic professional brand Sothys is today.

Mr Mas grew up in the principality of Monaco in an atmosphere of pharmaceutical innovations forged by a family business his parents ran. This was an environment where researchers and chemists explored exciting opportunities arising in the cosmetic industry in the 1950s.

It was during one of his many visits to the professional pharmaceutical salons that Mr Mas chanced upon Dr Hotz in one of the first professional cosmetic salons – Sothys at 163 rue de Faubourg Saint Honoré, Paris.

From the beginning, Mr Mas was convinced of the long term potential of cosmetic salons – this type of cosmetic presentation was a new concept then. Mr Mas embarked to build upon the foundations of the beauty institute Dr Hotz had established, transforming it into a modern firm specialising in the creation of professional cosmetics.

The Mas family’s experience and appreciation of stringent pharmaceutical production brought improvement and perfection to Dr Hotz’s existing products. This increased efficiency and safety led to the addition of new formulas and creations.

Mr Mas believed that for a true cosmetic brand to remain relevant it must be developed in collaboration with professionals – those in the beauty institutes. A choice was made from the beginning that Sothys products will be the reserve of these beauty institutes. This exclusive policy is being practiced to this present day across the globe.
